i have had a hysterectomy and wanting to know info on peri-menapausal symtoms and what to expect..i still have both ovaries so am i still producing estrogen.? Answer:Perimenopause is the time before actual menopause, when a woman begins producing less estrogen. The most common symptoms of perimenopause include hot flashes, vaginal dryness, irregular periods, heavy or scant periods, mood swings, and weight gain. Symptoms can begin as early as age 35, and the symptoms can last up to 10 years. However, there are no true "rules." Every woman is different, and some may only experience one of the symptoms while another may experience all of the symptoms. Some women may experience only 1-2 years of symptoms while others experience symptoms for a very long time. If your ovaries were left in place during your hysterectomy and they are not damaged from disease, you continued to produce estrogen; therefore, you will experience perimenopause and later menopausal symptoms. |
