We used Encare: Vaginal Contraceptive Inserts, and now it burns both my girlfriend and I. Is this normal? And how can we make it go away? Answer:You are probably having a reaction to the spermicide. BTW- they aren't really condoms-- it's a suppository that contains a chemical called non-oxynyl 9, which is a highly effective spermicide. But, many people are sensitive to spermicides. They can cause burning and itching and even a rash. To make it go away, wash the area (both of you) with gentle soap and warm water to make sure all of it is off of your skin. Oral Benedryl may help with the itching/burning. After that it's just time to let it heal. In the future, use regular male condoms without spermicide. Also, you should be using another type of birth control, like pills. Call your local planned parenthood or family planning clinic. Also, if the burning doesn't go away in a day or two, you need to see a doctor. |
