I normally use the patch for my birth control. However, I recently screwed up the schedule so I had to take the patch off (it was the week one patch) and wait until I can start the cycle correctly again. Now I am concerned because it has been a few days and I have had more than spotting (without getting too gross). Is this normal? What should I do?

Most likely yes it is normal you have upset your system with the birth control. You should start it as prescribed on the next cycle and you should straighten out then. Make sure you use back up protection. If you are overly concerned that its something more than your system being thrown off wack, call your doctor.
