I am due to have my first LEEP procedure done by the end of the month. After 10 years of normal paps, I was upset when my recent one from last month came back with severe dysplasia. My doctor is going to call me this week with biopsy results and schedule a day for the surgery. I'm not too thrilled about it and the stress and worrying will not be over until the surgery is over. I have support from family, friends and my boyfriend but sometimes that doesn't help. What can I expect during the surgery, recovery period? I will be put out for this along with the general anesthesia. Answer:Ok, I may not be the best to answer this since i did not have an LEEP, but I did have laser surgery to remove high grade dysplasia. I had always had abnormal paps though, for the past two years at least, but they were never that bad. I heard the word pre-cancerous cells and immediately freaked out. but my doc was really nice and explained that its NOT cancer and is something that can be easily taken care of. he says many times ppl freak out and have parents fly in from all over the country, when in reality it is not something you should worry yourself sick over, especially since we have the technology to handle it. I was put under general anesthesia for my surgery as well. u get there, they take your vitals and everything and have you change into the gown (of course u cannot eat that morning). walked over to the OR, lay down and they walk around doing all these preparations while waiting for the surgeon. then they give u the IV and put u out. after that, all u do is wake up and you're in the recovery room, groggy, tired, and in my case, freezing cold, and with one of those huge industrial size pads on you to absorb any bleeding or discharge. |
