Santhi Soundarajan, from Tamil Nadu, won gold medal in the asian runners olympics. but she got her medal taken away shortly after and was disqualified because she failed the gender test. they said that her reproductive organs did not function in a way that a womans should. She has grown up along with other siblings and her parents were always financially unstable, her parents say that she was born a female and grew up as a female and has always been a female, and also taken previouse gender tests and didnt fail them. researchers say that Santhi has only previously started eating well balanced meals, but also has been seen taking male harmonal pills and developed suspicious characteristics and suggested to take a gender test. Answer:It's really nice to at least see a somewhat intelligent question on this topic. Santhi has unfortunately suffered a gross injustice through the media, and the official who leaked incomplete results of her gender test to the media was out of order in what he did and breached confidentiallity rules of the games. Santhi was born with a condition called Androgen Insensitivity Syndrome (or AIS). In her case she does have a 'Y' chromosone (normally only associated with males) and her body has the inability to respond to testosterone (the male hormone). Her condition has nothing to do with her diet and 'suspicious characteristics' are not something that have mysteriously started appearing. |
