Is it possible to have an undiagnosed intramural fibroid for years even though there were annual obg

Are intramural fibroids easily identified by obgyns? I have a 7 cm fibroid and I'm wondering why it wasn't diagnosed sooner.

Answer:

It depends on what happens in your annual exams. In England, we only have smear tests every 3 years. The nurse takes a swab of your cervix. Its easy enough to miss fibroids in this case because if your cervix is at an angle at the day of your smear (yes they move around the little beggars!) If it was 7cm a professional should be able to see it or feel it if you had an internal exam annually. But I dont know how fast they can grow.
