I don't get a very restful night's sleep and was wondering what teas could help me sleep

Answer:

There are many herbal teas like Sleepytime (Celestial Seasons), Sweat Dreams (Bigelow?), and the Yogi Brand puts out a blend with Kava Kava to help you relax. You can also try Valerian Root caplets (I have the most luck with these). They don't "knock you out", but they can help mellow you a bit.

A thing to try is watching your "sleep hygiene". Don't eat less than 3 hours before bedtime; watch that you do not consume caffeine in the latter part of the day; eliminate naps during the day, if you take them; start making your bedtime a ritual (repetitive tasks at bedtime) to trick yourself into going to sleep; listen to some relaxing music or read part of a book prior to settling in.

Hope this helps. If not, you can talk to your doctor and see what they recommend.

PS: always consult your doctor first if you are on any daily prescriptions before taking herbs- they can interact with certain meds! sleepytime tea by celestial gardens chamomile sp? If you go to the health food store they have many different kinds and they can give you exactly what you need. Sleeptime teas are great. So is camomille tea. I like the sleepytime tea. You could also try to find gaba tea. It is a japanese tea that helps you to relax and sleep well. Supplements of GABA are also available, but check with your doctor to see if they are right for you. This is not a tea but something you add to tea. It's called CalMax and it's a calcium-magnesium powder supplement with lemon. You can get it in a good health food store. You stir it into the hot water and then put your herbal teabag in and let it steep as usual. It tastes a little "supplementy" but it will definitely help you sleep. I also recommend that if you have caffeine during the day and are having problems sleeping at night, eliminate all caffeine after noon. Good luck!
