Answer:
No, but I am a neuromuscular massage therapist. I understand Bowen is less active than a massage though it is still technically a type of massage. If you have back pain, massage is great so long as there are no contraindications for massage like disc ruptures or protrusions or other dangerous conditions that massage could exacerbate your problem. Neuromuscular therapists are generally very well trained in making sure there are no contra's as well as getting right to the source and helping your pain. It is usually done in the course or in conjunction with a seemingly typical, relaxing massage. No matter what massage you choose, the treatment is only usually 25% of the success. The rest depends on identifying and eliminating perpetuating factors for pain and performing proper self care stretches and exercises. See the American Massage Therapy Association's website. They have a therapist locator. You can also post a request for a neuromuscular therapist at NMT Midwest's "discussion" section message board if you are in the Midwest US or some other areas. Both websites are free to use. Good luck. |
