I need to start getting into shape, I feel more lazy now than I have in years, I'm a 22 year old male, I weigh 130 llbs, I have no meat on me and barley any muscle...does anyone know of any work out plans to get me started, and not so much that I become overwhelmed and deside to give up?? I live in an apt complex and they have all the excersize equipment I need, so I think. I do a lot of hiking and walking with my dog, but I need to gain some muscle not lose fat. Help me out please! Answer:Well, it sounds to me that you're in a pretty good situation right now to gain muscle; You're young and in your prime, you've got no disabilities (i hope), and you've got the equipment. So here are some sample work outs you can do: (i'm assuming you have only an hour a day, but hopefully you have more) 1. You've got to remember to work out all of your major muscle groups. These are (with no scienfical-like names): The chest, the arms (biceps, triceps, forearms, shoulders), the upper and lower back, the abs, the butt, and the legs (gastrocnemius, gluteus, etc). so that's 6 basic things for the chest, you can't go wrong with the bench press. The greatest thing for chest! (push ups are good, too, and so are some other things, like dips and such). Since your aim is to gain muscle, DO NOT use skimpy weight that you can lift up and down a couple hundred times (in fact, even 15 times is waay too much). Doing reps helps, and you should do it to warm up of course, but to gain muscle you need to be lifting something you can only lift about 6-8 times (i go with 4-6 times myself) |
