Hi...I was diagnosed with breast cancer June '05, finished all treatment and my hair is coming in curly, dry and unmanageable...Any suggestions on what I can try? My hair used to be long, straight and silky. It's now a mess. I have had about 3 hair cuts...it's a frizzy dry mess. Thanks for any tips. Answer:It should go back to normal after all the 'post cancer' hair grows out. Mine came back really wavy at first, but it is completely back the way it used to be now. Best wishes Most hair comes in curly after chemo from what I have seen. Consult your beautician and have her/him tell you what products are best to use to get your hair under control. As a hair stylist I've seen this every time when substantial hair loss happened. Honestly I can only assume the hair papilla is affected by the chemo but don't know to what extent. I would look into a very good wig stylist. There are salons that specialize in cancer victims. Alot of wigs are awsome these days. The celebs wear them alot. I would even consider shaving your head on a regular basis until you see more normal hair return as the chemo leaves the papilla(what nourishes the hair) Try looking at Xang.com for a supplement that has helped many people with this area. I know just how you feel! I finished my treatment in 2004. My hair was always very fine and straight before chemo, but after treatment when my hair started to grow back it also came in curly - and I couldn't do anything with it. I tried a straight iron, and all kinds of product in my hair but nothing really seemed to work. My suggestion would be to go to a salon and tell them where you're at .... post chemo treatment .... and they may be able to help you with styling tips and product. It took about a year or so before my hair began to straighten out and get back to normal. Good luck to you! Just get used to it.Sorry ,I know that this is not the answer that you want.11 years ago July 18th,2007 I had breast removed and was told to have chemotherphy .9 treatments later I had the unruley hair.Would not perm like before. So, I found a way to be happy with being alive even with unruly hair.I keep it rather short with lots of highlights.People tell me that I have beautiful hair that do not even know my story.Experiment with different styles and different highlights. Most of all enjoy life everyday.Don't just smell the Roses, look at the entire garden |
