Please tell me any side effects you had whilst on the medication and if anything persisted even when the course was finished i.e. depression/hair loss/ other health problems / dry skin etc. I have been prescirbed this drug and I'm terrified due to all the negative things about it I am reading now. My skin is not oily at all in fact rather dry but still I have acne. Will this drug help me even if my problem isnt oily skin but rather inflammation due to allergies (I can't use any products on my skin including make up/cleansers as I get a reaction my skin is very sensitive. I'm just wondering if Roaccutane can make things worse in my case? Any advice is appreciated ! Answer:It's definitely a personal decision which you need to consider carefully, but my experience with Accutane was incredible. I can honestly say it is the best thing I've ever done. Keep in mind that it effects everyone differently. I was also VERY nervous after researching the drug, but after 11 years (i am in my early twenties) of extremely severe cystic acne (oily skin wasn't my problem either) I decided to try it. My doctor was encouraging and they monitored me extremely carefully. I was nervous about depression because I tend to be a little depressed anyway, but the Accutane actually made me almost manically happy. I know that sounds weird, but that is what it did for me. The negative side effect were dry, fragile skin and some joint pain in my hips. I also had some headaches which Tylenol easily took care of. A month after stopping treatment, all side effects (including the "super-happy" side effect) were completely gone. I've been off since Oct. 31 and am acne free. It is still hard for me to look at my before pics! But remember to take it very seriously. You MUST NOT SLOUCH on birth control. Just do what the doc tells you to and watch out for any signs of depression or other probs and report them immediately. I wish you the best of luck, whatever you decide to do! i dont like that medication. as a patient and also as a physician. its side effects are horrible. i had headaches all the time and it made me depressed. it also causes liver damage and birth defects if you accidentally get pregnant. i would recommend you try doxycycline or minocylin or benza-clin. |
