I have a friend who is maybe going to have one and is a bit concerned

2 years ago I had a L4/L5 disc replacement done which is the discs right at the bottom of the spine and after suffering for over 14 years they finally got around to doing something about it....I was very nervous but my quality of life was horrid and the pain was horrid, the pain killers were becoming part of a normal life and I never wanted that as I had a 2 year old at the time.I spent 7 days in hospital and the day after surgery I was climbing the stairs with the physio's watching over me...I have never looked back and since having it done I've been able to have another baby which if I hadn't had it done she would never of been born.2 years later and I have no pain and my life back.Have faith in the dr's they do these op's all the time...good luck. i haven`t heard that Never had a lover back operation or a lower back operation.

Sorry I can't be of any help suggest your friend talk to consultant to put her mind at rest.

Know of person who has had a back operation and has taken quite a long time to recover or become mobile again - but it could be something completely different to what your friend is going to have done and your friend's operation may not be as serious. My sister had a spinal fusion operation and it was pretty major op. I have to say that these surgeons do really know what they are doing and while it may be terrifying for your friend, I am sure he/she will be in the best hands.
