I took Clonidine for many years(hypertension) and it really did not impact my blood sugars. It does not offer any protective effects for the kidneys either, so am now taking an ace inhibitor instead. Clonidine should be used cautiously in patients with diabetes mellitus because transient elevations in blood glucose have been noted.

There is nothing in the research that talks about a reduction in blood glucose.
