Answer:

If you are using an insulin pen, then squirting some out will reduce the amount of insulin you take.I don't understand where that nurse came from.

Just dial up the number of units you need and inject. No need to worry about tiny air bubbles in an insulin pen.

Good luck and congratulations. My son has type 1 diabetes so i've learned a bit about those bubbles. We don't use a pen but as far as bubbles go,it's the same advice as with regular needles. The bubbles will not hurt you in any way. The problem is that when you have bubbles,it takes up room in the syringe where your insulin should be. In other words, you're getting less insulin when you have bubbles. I was told to not even worry about little bubbles,it wont effect anything and if you try and get every single little bubble out, you'll spend all day getting your shot and driving yourself crazy. Only worry about re doing it if you have large bubbles.
