Genital Herpes.....Lots of questions.?
Quickly Book mark.

I have herpes and I am with someone now. I have told him I have it and we want to do more research to prevent him from getting it.

I don't need any smart *** answers here so shut up if you have nothing helpful to say.

I have not had an outbreak since finding out I have it. But should I go ahead and consider taking meds to prevent shedding?

Also how does this affect oral sex? Im sure it could be spread orally but how can you prevent that as well??

I am not finding a lot of info on the web about all this. My doctor is a jerk and called me at work to tell me that I had come in contact with it at some point in my life. What a jerk.

Please give me some insight!

Thanks!!

Answer:

How great you have not had an outbreak! As I am sure you already know, just because you have not had an outbreak you can still spread the virus to your partner. Since you don't know when you are shedding, it is hard for you to know when you should avoid sex. Using a condom and taking a daily meds can reduce the chance of spreading it to him to as little as 1%

As for oral. It depends on what type you have. Chances of spreading type 2 to him orally is pretty slim. If you have type 1, then chances are much higher.

Has he been tested? It is possible that he may already have at least one type already. If you are both type 1, then there is almost no risk at all.

As for your dr, BTDT. It seems more common than not that drs do not know how to deal with herpes. Since it is little more than a minor skin condition, most drs do not bother keeping updated on latest develoments in research. It is important for you to do your own reasearch, so you can be sure you are getting the best care for your situation.
