5'3'' and weight 195. BMI is 35....is this eligible for Gastric Bypass Surgery??

Answer:

It does if you have comorbidities relating to your obesity. These comorbidities include but are not limited to sleep apnea, type II diabetes, stasis ulcers, paniculitis, GERD etc. At your BMI I recommend that you start on an exercise program and eat nothing more than rice steamed vegetables and a piece of boiled chicken. Obesity will kill you faster than smoking or alcoholism so take charge now while you still can. You need to forsake all foods which this society has told you is ok (snacks, soda, desserts). It is up to you but think about this have you ever seen a fat chinese fisherman or farmer? NO , YOU ONLY NEED TO LOSE 60 LBS WHY, WOULD YOU WANT PUT YOUR SELF THROUGH THAT? Typically it's 100 lbs or more overweight, that's the usual cutoff. You would want to avoid that if at all possible. But talking to a bariatric physician may help. They use other methods too. I would think you would be close at 5'3". At least visit a surgeon and talk it over with him.

I had gastric bypass surgery in April 2005. I started out at 268, now I鈥檓 180 and holding. These links will help you in many ways to make a decision if this is for you or not. I vote yes, because it made such a difference in my life. I was taking 8 pills a day, and after my surgery, I lost my diabetes. The way they do the surgery, takes your diabetes away. I no longer have to take glucophage, and I no longer have high Cholesterol or high blood pressure. I鈥檓 down to 2 pills a day. I went from a size 26-28 to a 16-18.
