For no reason whatsoever, yesterday evening my right forearm started itching pretty bad. I can't think of anything to cause it and I did the usual... I put on my Vaseline Deep Moisture lotion which is 30% vaseline and usually helps at the first go. Well I ended up putting it on 3 more times over night, waking up in my sleep to find me scratching to bleeding point. Its all the way around my arm. Under my wrist to the top where the skin is thicker. I went to work this afternoon and put on some Aquaphor Advanced Therapy (41% vaseline!) and it did absolutely nothing. I figured allergic reaction to a wool shirt I wore a couple days ago and dealt with it and tried not itching. Well its been over 24 hours and its been itching, and I'm not lying, CONSTANTLY. No relief. I looked closely and its just really dry, and on my wrist where that little bone sticks out the skin is like a lizards - starting to peel/crack. I rubbed on TONS of Aquaphor and nothing! It continues and I've changed 3 times. Answer:stop using the lotion-the vasoline could be irritating the reaction worse, causing more swelling and itching-which is causing your skin to be more dry try using benadryl cream to the affected area. benadryl is a histamine blocker. histamine is the common chemical that triggers allergic reaction to things. -wash the area with warm water and mild soap (dove or ivory only) -when drying-blot the area dry do not rub. -use baby detergent to wash your clothes until the rash clears. this will help prevent further irritation. |
