Eczema and Swimming - anything to protect the skin?

I am 23 and used to suffer with eczema as a child, mostly grown out of it as long as I don't let my skin dry out. Recently started swimming in the UK and find that it irritates my skin afterwards. Since I have been swimming I find that the skin on my face burns when I apply moisutiser. Is there anything I can use to protect the skin on my face while I am swimming. What brands of products would you recommend? Please help, don't want to give up swimming!

Answer:

Well, swimming does dry out your skin...a lot. And moistuizer burns when you apply it to your face because there is alcohol in it so it irrates it. Some of the best products are Vaseline, and Neosporin because its oily and there is no alcohol. Also try some face washs from Equaline, and that arent ones taht are used to clear up acne because that will jsut dry up your skin more. Everytime you get out of the water shower or just rinse off so the chlorine cant stay on your skin. And apply moistuizer everywhere else every chance you get! Vaseline would work if it does't irritate your skin. My son has to use Epiderm which is a really thick vaseline type product. we get it on prescription, not sure if its available over the counter but your pharmacist could recommend something similair. Rub on Vaseline all over. The first step is to shower thoroughly with a gentle soap of shower product afterwards to ensure all traces of chlorine are washed off. Then make sure you are properly dry but by patting rather than rubbing too hard with the towel. It might be wirth using a gentle moisturising shower cream like Dove or similar.
