I am only 23 and the doctor put me on high blood pressure medication. The only time I had trouble with high blood pressure was when I was pregnant. But my son is a year old now and all of a sudden I have high blood pressure. I have been on the medication for 2 weeks now and I am trying to find ways to reduce the blood pressure so I won't have to keep taking this medication. I'm not pregnant again and No I am not overweight.. What can I do? Answer:You really need to watch your sodium (salt) intake. Look at the packaging on many of your foods and look at the sodium count. A lot of packaged foods are very high in sodium to give them shelf life. Often times a can of soup will give you your entire sodium intake for the day and that is just one meal. The cranberry juice will help you flush toxins and salt out of your system (kidneys & liver). You might want to go to a health store and look at a detox kit. It may be that your body needs to be flushed, but I would be careful doing it with you high blood pressure medicine. Do you exercise? Even if you are not overweight, daily exercise will help your blood pressure as well. Cranberry juice helps fend off urinary tract infections, but haven't heard anything about it helping with high blood pressure. My doctor says one or two glasses of red wine every night helps lower blood pressure, as does reducing salt intake and exercise (which you probably already know). Not sure if cranberry juice treats high blood pressure, but it does treat UTI infections and makes a great antioxidant. What you need to know is understanding your personal family history for one. Next ~ you need to cut back on excess salt in your diet, and exercising, whether you know it or not does help reduce high blood pressure. It also takes a lot of motivation on your part to stay and live healthy. |
