For a few months now, about every two weeks I have really bad stomach pains. Not aches, PAINS-as if someone were stabbing me in the stomach. I was just wondering from a doctors POV what that could possibly be. My PCP is kind of a quack, so I wanted to get some leverage on the situation before I go to her. Thank you. Answer:What I need to know is what kind of pains these are, Is it a sharp pain that lasts only a short time, or is it a longer pain that lasts a day or so... If it is a short time like a few min to a few hours it could be something that I have had before, which are ovarian cysts. I though the first time that I was being stabbed in the stomach. it was fairly low, remember ovarian is under the stomach, more abdominal pains. In the end I would go to the ER the next time you have these pains, they could investigate it more fully and possibly give you a better answer than someone who may or may not be a doctor answering this question. Also go to webMD.com, they could give you an asnwer too. You need to be personally examined by someone. If your PCP is a quack, then find a new one. It could be anything from food poisoning to ulcers to Irritable Bowel Syndrome to cancer to dehydration to pregnancy to endometriosis to Crohn's Disease to a thousand other different things. Let a physician examine you and run the necessary tests so that you can start to feel better. Good luck to you. Honestly, it can be almost anything. A symptom like this can be caused by everything from constipation to stomach ulcers to cancer. What other symptoms are present? Are you lactose intolerant? Are you sure it is your stomach or is it generally an abdominal pain? Your doctor really should make the diagnosis. And you should really see your doctor right away. It may be something simple like gaseous bloating that can be easily remedied. Or it may be something serious like diverticulitis or appendicitis which are potentially very dangerous. If you don't trust your doctor you should really search for a medical care provider that you're comfortable with. Ask friends or family for a recommendation. Hope everything gets better. Best of luck! |
