Piritin or Claritin try both to see which one helps you the best. Zirtek works a treat for me......hope that helps....

Sudafed is useless! dollar for dollar when talking about otc meds, I'd opt for Claritin rather than an antihistaminic. I get ceterizine from the docs and that works fine. If i'm out and about and don't have any on me tho i always go for piriton. Allerest non drowsy formula I have major allergies

I find that the best Antihistermines (copied your spelling lol) which does not cause drowsiness is Zirtek.........

i need to take them all year round and they work well xx Yes i do.Piriton is very affective but it makes you very drowsy so never use if you have to drive etc. my son is allergic to hay. We have guinaea pigs and if he goes near the hay, he gets a bubbly rash on his face, or his eyes swell and nose gets runny. I always keep liquid citirizine in the cupboard,Its fab,it counteracts the allergic reaction straight away. My husband gets hay fever and takes the tablets. Cetirizine tablets. They are only available on prescription though. I have allergies to lots different foods and they are the only ones that have really worked for me. For me, the best out there is Allegra. It works great and doesn't cause any drowsiness.

I used to take Zyrtec (people above me, learn how to spell your own medicines!), but found it made me sleepy during the day. Works great other than that, though!! Antihistamines divide into 2 groups in my view.

1) Old, cheap, very potent but sedative.

2) Newer, more expensive, less potent, less sedative.

First group is easy chlorpheniramine or Hydroxyzine. Both very effective, some patients tolerate any sedation well.

Second group- pick one, I've been chopping and changing my advice on these for years. In reality despite the pharmaceutical company claims, I have found precious little difference between them in practise. I donot know but this site (on natural & alternative remedies)might offer some advice. Please type in relevant words (eg antihistamine or allergy).
