I've been interested in this since my roommate last week told me that the chances of men getting HIV/AIDS from heterosexual sex is the lowest of any demographic. That's of course not to say it can't or doesn't happen. But looking at figures, it seems we actually have a pretty low HIV/AIDS rate in this country with its effects scattered across very specific groups such as the American Gay community, which has had varying degrees of success and failure in combating it in the last 26 years. Minority women have been at risk as a portion of their community become infected by former inmates who contracted the viruses in prison. I guess this is a loaded question, but is it possible that we leave unchallenged the notion that heterosexuals are a growing risk for HIV/AIDS while not focusing specifically on the communities that are at the greatest risk. Is it easier to get attention to the issue by linking lower-risk groups to it? What do you think?

The simple reason why we have the lowest number of HIV in America is because of: educational resources. We educate people to stay safe and to prevent HIV. We are one of the few countries who has a government beurau dedicated to AIDS. Not every minority women is with a man from prison by the way. There are major gender disparities occurring there, such as rape, even a lcak of access to resources to stay protected. And women are way more likely to get it from vaginal intercourse because of the rips and tears. So, since AIDS doesn't discriminate, it's important to target every group to be VERY careful. I can't say about USA but in India, it is becoming a crisis because of poor awareness and rampant prostitution and the refusal of the male partner to wear a condom, thus spreading the virus further. If you are a heterosexual white male, the answer is no. If you do not have other STD's its impossible to get for a white man from a women.

Never happend, not even once. Aids is rampant all over the world just like Cancer and other diseases. It get blown out of proportion by the medical establishments and the media to make money. Your roommate is an idiot.

Lesbians would have the lowest transmission rate of any demographic.

In Africa, heterosexual transmission accounts for about 97% of all transmission. To assume, just because the rate is increasing very slowly, it's not a threat, is just a form of hiding your head in the sand. When a ball starts rolling down a shallow incline, it starts off very slow. The nature of acceleration is an increasing rate - that's the danger in HIV. It's got a building acceleration.
