what fruits can diabetics eat frequently (with low sugar) Answer:Best advice is directly from the American Diabetic Association website: "Fruit is a healthy food. It contains fiber and lots of vitamins and minerals. Because fruit contains carbohydrate, it needs to be included in your meal plan. Talk to your dietitian about the amount, frequency and types of fruits you should eat." Or, speak to a registered dietitian for lists of fruits and their carbohydrate values, to see what is higher and lower in carbs(sugars). I also recommend the "Offical Pocketguide to the Diabetic Exchange Diet", also from teh ADA, that's available at Barnes and Noble. Hope this helps! An apple a day keeps the doctor away. Yummie. More info for diabetics here: http://www.geocities.com/seabulls69/type... My father is a diabetic and he eats a lot of nectarines and peaches. I eat apples, bananas (once a day), grapes. I eat these moderately. (I love pineapple, but it causes me to have bad acid reflux) my aunt eat a single sweet or fruit twice a month Apples are good. Watermelon, other melons, grapes, oranges, berries etc should be eater in moderation. I eat what I want, but in much smaller portions. I am diabetic and do not take medication. When first diagnosed, I weighed about 215 lbs. I dropped that down to low 180's and ceased and desisted consuming products that contain high concentrations of sugar, especially processed sugar such as you might find in ice cream, cake, candy, etc. Initially, I was on Avandia, but after I lost weight and changed my diet, I dumped it (after about 6 months). I eat fruit with abandon; I especially like green grapes. My GA1C levels are low 5. The doctor is pleased. I just love this question. People with diabetes can eat anything they want. It's all a matter of counting carbs and learning how to control your sugar through portion control, exercise and medication. It is also important when you eat the fruit. With meals or by its self. Good luck. Just start learning those carbs. |
