braces are uncomfortable. you get use to them after a few days. then they hurt again when you get the bands changed, but it goes away shortly after you leave. the only thing that really "hurts" for a period of time is when your inside of your lips get cut up from the braces rubbing on them before they get use to it. i had them for 3 years. i had to get a palet- splitter. that hurts really really bad. be happy if you only need braces. i think that the little pain is worth it-just follow what they say so you dont have to do more (sometimes if you dont do what they suggest you have to get headgear and things like that). Braces hurt every time your dentist tightens them. This happens regularly. But they especially hurt the first time you get them. Goodness..sometimes they hurt for 2 days sometimes for a week..yes they hurt but at least you get straight teeth!

Oops forgot to say they hurt when they get tightened and when you get them on A few hours after I got my braces put on for the first time they hurt pretty bad. My teeth were very sensitive. I couldn't eat much for the first couple of days. Than I became used to it and the pain went away. Everytime they tightened my wires at checkups though it would make them sore for awhile, but not as bad as the first time. Hope this helps! they hurt only the fisrt couple of days. You cant eat anything for a while. The only REAL painful part is the first time they are added. Afterwards, the tightening of the wires is the only modification they do. It hurts much less. You probably will be hurting for probably a couple of days, a week, or maybe more. I would advise eating all your favorite foods before because after you get your braces, you aren't "allowed" to eat some types of food. When you get your braces, I'd advise getting soup or some soft foods. i used to have braces
