Do braces change your jaw growth?

I had braces for 2 years from 10 to 12. I used to have an overbite and according to my mom a "lack of chin." I was wondering if braces made my lower jaw stronger, even though I hate it now. I regret getting braces because now I have a strong jaw. I was wondering if this is because of natural growth or braces.

Answer:

no but it alters your gun line inside your mouth only Braces alone cannot, you need to have worn a special plate or a headgear for that to bring about a change in growth. If you only wore braces then yes it is just your growth, braces can't affect jaw growth.

Basically, you can't change the amount of growth that you are born with, though it is possible to redirect growth to a different direction.

If you had a deep overbite when young, it is possible to lessen it, usually with a functional appliance.

Functional appliances have their uses, but current philosophy with regards to early treatment says that it is not efficient to do so, even if it is effective.

Basically, it is recommended to do interceptive treatment if there are functional shifts, or if there is a risk of the jaws developing in a postured position.
