I just got braces almost one week ago, and I've noticed its really hard to clean your teeth because they are in the way. I'm scared my teeth is gonna go all yellow and be stained...is there a solution to this? I've cleaned it so thoroughly but it still doesnt look normal! Or am i just paranoid?? Answer:No, you're not paranoid. You have to take extra care to keep your teeth clean when you have braces because all of that metal allows food to get stuck in the crevices. Do you have flossers? You should be able to get them at your local supermarket or walmart. They look like big needles made out of stiff dental floss. Make sure you use these to go between your teeth and floss every night. When you are done flossing, you can take a toothpick and carefully and gently go around the brackets and your gumline to get any excess plaque off. THEN, brush your teeth with toothpaste that has flouride- brushing should always be AFTER flossing. After brushing, gargle and rinse with Listerine. Get the mint kind, because the gold stuff will make you yak. When you get your little rubber bands on your brackets changed, opt for a darker color so they don't get stained- (tomato sauce and carrots, etc will stain the lighter colored ones). You can also get these little fizzy tabs that you can rinse your mouth with after brushing. the red will stick to any plaque left on your teeth. I think they also make a rinse like that now too. |
