I've been able to pull the little stinky balls of cold from the back of my throat for a while, but this is something that will happen a couple of times a year. At this point it happens every other day. Any solutions?

Answer:

They are tonsilloliths - little calcified balls of mucous from post-nasal drip, plaque, food particles and bacteria. They stick in the crevices of the tonsils and rot away and turn rather sulfuric, so they smell like rotten eggs and vomit. You've been able to pull them out, so that's okay. You could also try gargling with a hot salt water or mouthwash to loosen them up and freshen. They are more of a nuisance than anything - not dangerous - so if you can live with it, do it. Otherwise, you could have surgery to either remove the surface of the tonsils (to eliminate the crevices that collect the debris) with a laser or to have the tonsils removed (more drastic and not necessarily recommended).
